Conference aims

Well-being for all: Innovation and insights in human-animal interactions

Encourage Collaboration

Encourage international collaboration by sharing new insights, terminology and innovations in human-animal interactions and animal-assisted services including the work of practitioners, educators and researchers in human health, animal health and well-being and allied fields.

Focus on new insights

We welcome a focus on new insights on the impacts of human-animal interactions on the well-being of people and animals - for example new approaches, standards, protocols and ethics.

A spotlight on the exciting Dutch human-animal interaction work

Put a spotlight on the exciting human-animal interaction work taking place in The Netherlands, where many advancements are being made to practice and research

Support professional sustainability

Continue to support a sustainable future for the field and sustainable career paths for those working in it by building relationships and sharing knowledge and practice

Why Attend?

In addition to the excellent quality and diversity of presentations on the latest work in the field, IAHAIO conferences offer a unique melting pot of people working in different ways – practice, research, education – and from a range of regions and countries. They offer international perspectives of the current state of play, with delegates often leaving with ‘gold nuggets‘ of information and inspiring connections to advance their work.
Importantly, IAHAIO conferences are warm and welcoming, the place where long-lasting professional links are established, where old friends meet and new friendships are created. This fosters collaboration and support and a respect for different perspectives.

2025 is also a special event year for IAHAIO as it is the last conference that will be presided over by our President, Prof.Dr Marie-Jose Enders-Slegers, who will retire after 9 years in the role. She will give a keynote presentation, outlining innovations and current status of the field in her home country, The Netherlands.
And, of course, the conference is hosted in the vibrant city of Amsterdam, which has so much to offer! Why not take a few days to do some sight-seeing pre or post conference?

Whether you make a presentation at the conference, or simply attend to soak up everything it has to offer, this conference is not one to miss!

"A number of things were very recognizable from previous IAHAIO conferences, such as the open atmosphere, the warm welcome and that everything was organized very well. This was my first in-person meeting with colleagues from all over the world in five years. When I was in Cluj, I realized once again how important this contact is after all and how much I missed it during the years of the pandemic! For me, meeting both scientists and practitioners (and some combine both) is still of great value. The topic of these two days was 'The power of human-animal interactions in times of crisis'. This was covered very broadly by both the keynote speakers and during the oral presentations and on the poster presentations. The days were organized in a way that after a number of plenary presentations you had a choice between parallel workshops or a number of short oral presentations. Sometimes it was hard to choose where to go! "
